Vascular and Interventional Physicians Helps Patient with Uterine Fibroids

Vascular and Interventional Physicians (VIP) of Northwest Radiology is focused on minimally-invasive procedures and surgical alternatives. One alternative procedure performed by VIP co-founders Dr. Vincent Flanders and Dr. Joshua Dowell is uterine fibroid embolization. This particular procedure helped patient Shannon Frazier take advantage of a procedure offering less risk, less pain and less recovery time. She shared her story with WTHR-TV.

Northwest Radiology Network Launches Vascular and Interventional Physicians (VIP)

Northwest Radiology Network is excited to announce the launch of Vascular and Interventional Physicians (VIP), a division of Northwest Radiology focused on minimally-invasive procedures and surgical alternatives.

Located at 10603 N. Meridian Street in Indianapolis, the new outpatient clinic and procedural facility is led by Vincent Flanders, MD and Joshua Dowell, MD, PhD, FSIR of Northwest Radiology (NWR), both board-certified interventional and vascular radiologists who have been trained in body imaging diagnostic radiology as well as image-guided procedures.

“Our new outpatient location for VIP allows new doors to open and facilitates the transition of patients’ care to more convenient and affordable models,” said Northwest Radiology Executive Director and CFO Linda Wilgus, CPA, MBA. “We plan to continue to expand and provide this care model at more locations throughout central Indiana — with the same level of compassion and care you have come to expect from Northwest Radiology.”

Service areas include oncology, women’s health including uterine fibroid embolization, men’s health including prostate artery embolization, treatment of blood clots and arterial disease along with urologic, bone/joint and gastrointestinal conditions.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) with Dr. Joshua Dowell

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign pelvic tumors in women; they are more common and severe among African American women. For many women, a hysterectomy is often the next step, but that is not the only solution. The radiologists with Vascular & Interventional Physicians of Northwest Radiology perform outpatient uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), and Dr. Joshua Dowell discusses the procedure with WISH-TV.

Northwest Radiology Network Welcomes Women’s Health Radiologist Dr. Shakeeb Ahmad

Northwest Radiology Network welcomes Shakeeb Ahmad, M.D., who is subspecialized in women’s health radiology, including mammography.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., Dr. Ahmad received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed a medicine internship at the University of Louisville, radiology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Indiana University, and breast imaging fellowship at Indiana University.

Dr. Ahmad is a member of the American College of Radiology; American Roentgen Ray Society; Radiological Society of North America; and RAD-AID International, a World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations-sponsored organization dedicated to bringing radiology to the developing world.

His research experience includes a project based on the biomarker approach to defeating neurodegenerative disorders. He has also co-authored publications on the topics of CT findings of patients treated with irreversible electroporation for locally-advanced pancreatic cancer; and pelvic collateral pathways in aorto-iliac occlusive disease.
